Reading the History of Love ...

We loved this book. Our book club, whose members don’t often agree, loved this book. It’s the kind of book when you’re finished, you’ll want to read again. The story is about an old man who is grappling with the end of his life, a young girl whose father has died and now she is trying to cure her mother’s loneliness and the saga of a certain book, the translation of which ties all the characters together. Of course, the book in question is titled, The History of Love. The young girl is in search of its author.
Author Nicole Krauss was born in 1974 and is able to write literary fiction that not only carries a punch, but is readable. The book is poignant, beautiful and intriguing. Krauss lives in Brooklyn with her young husband, novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, who wrote Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. They have a son, Sasha.
