Springtime facts ....
Last week was the vernal equinox, better known as the official start of spring. Vernal means “relating to spring,” and equinox means “equal night,” or the time of year when day and night everywhere across the world are of the same length. This is the time of year when the sun is positioned over the equator, when eggs are said to balance most easily on their ends and when we talk of such things as the dawn, youth, the morning star and the East.
Given where we reside, the Earth is now tilting toward the sun and our days are growing longer. Spring is bursting forth with daffodils, grape hyacinths and soft pink tulips. According to Waverly Fitzgerald, who writes in her blog School of the Seasons:
www.schooloftheseasons.com/spring.html, this is the time of year when she decorates her springtime table with, among other things: “a mirror, a bowl of water with one freshly-picked green leaf floating in it, a candelabra contained a candle for every child in the house.”
We like that!
