Cheaper than getting a hotel room, such swaps can allow you to live in a new city as if you were a local. In return for someone staying in your own home, you get to occupy theirs for an agreed amount of time. You get all the luxuries of home without having to rent or find a hotel room. Many times, there is no additional cost.
